Julie recently joined the Bluestem team after 7 years as an editor for Smile Politely, a culture magazine in Champaign-Urbana. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and began her career as a third grade teacher before taking the winding path to becoming a Client Services Associate.

She’s originally from Normal but has called C-U home for nearly 25 years, which officially makes her a townie. She lives in Champaign with her husband Andy, son Devan, daughter Addison (when she’s home from college), dog Stitch and cat Doja.

With an empty nest on the horizon, Julie is looking forward to exploring what this next phase of life looks like. Right now, in addition to her work at Bluestem, that includes writing and editing, watching her son’s sporting events and band performances, cheering for Illini basketball, traveling (especially when it involves visiting her daughter), hanging out with friends and family, keeping up with reading for her two book clubs, volunteering as a mentor, and taking dance and aerial arts classes.
